Jewellery Rooms
12/10/17 2-4pm
The Jewellery Rooms at the V&A transport visitors into a dream-like world of all that glisters.
This spectacular collection of over 3,000 European jewels spanning over 3,000 years from Ancient
to Present, and ranging from gold, gems, diamonds to wood and paper.
Together, with our much valued English speaking volunteers, we will admire and examine the
craftsmanship and beauty of the pieces displayed. From the more practical watch, to pieces of
jewellery which may signify status, luck, mourning, rank or religion, to jewellery purely for pleasure
and sheer adornment.
There is so much to see. After our tour of the Jewellery Rooms we will take a short walk through
to the Digital Room in the new Sackler Centre. There, in the Digital Room, which the V&A has
kindly allowed us to use, we will have an opportunity to chat over a drink and a snack. We shall
also fun crafting our own jewellery! We will then also be able to share some new vocabulary and
expressions, reflecting on the thoughts and ideas we have learned before we return to our real
worlds.
