What we do

Home What we do

We support migrants and refugees in two different ways:

  1. In-reach: working directly with migrants and refugees through our ESOL language sessions. These are delivered in community settings (such as libraries).
  2. Outreach: By supporting other migrant and refugee organisations to use our workbooks. Learning takes place in a range of informal settings, such as asylum accommodation, migrant centres, and church spaces.

Our teaching with migrants and refugees (our ‘learners’) takes place in community settings and schools. Learners are supported to work through our ESOL workbooks by qualified ESOL teachers and volunteers. Learners can progress at their own pace and are assessed to establish their language development and ability to understand basic concepts.

Our teaching model is non-formal and based on a Social Learning Theory approach that emphasises learning by doing. Our workbooks reflect this through their use of illustrations showing the practical situations that learners will need to be able to navigate on their settlement journey as newly arrived migrants in the UK.

Throughout the year we organise days out to cultural spaces such as art galleries, and significant London landmarks. These are an important part of the learning experience and are supported by a series of workbooks designed to make London more accessible to newly arrived migrants.
